Bryan: Congratulations on receiving the July 2009 Artist of the Month award! I guess I'll start off with something simple, what got you interested in theatre, and how long have you been involved?
Caitlin: I've always loved performing and being up in front of people so theatre has always been with me. I guess you could say that I've been involved since grade four when I performed as "Wilbur" in "Charlotte's Web" (Yes, my first role was a pig!). Ever since that performance I've been hooked.
Bryan: What/who is your favourite play and/or playwright?
Caitlin: This is a hard question because I love so many plays but one of my favourites is definitely "The Importance of Being Earnest". It is so funny and well-written. One of my favourite playwrights though is Daniel MacIvor. He writes so many great stories and all of them are presented differently from the last, it's great.
Bryan: Tell us about a funny or embarassing moment you've had on stage or during a rehearsal.
Caitlin: Well, I think the funniest moment for me in recent times was a rehearsal of a One Act directed by Finn Archinuk at Brock University with Geoffrey Heaney, Corey Mehlenbacher, and Kristine Simpson. There was a comedic pause after one of Geoffrey's lines, I had the next line, and we could not stop laughing in the pause. We actually ended up having to do the moment again and again until we could do it 3 times without laughing. I think we did it 20 times to get the 3. I love the uncontrollable laughter though, it means we must be having fun in the process, right?
Bryan: What is your favourite Michael Jackson song and/video?
Caitlin: Oh, I love Michael Jackson songs so it`s gonna be hard to pick but I think I would have to say Billie Jean for favourite song but Thriller for favourite video. I love to dance and Billie Jean is the perfect song for that and who could argue with an amazing video like Thriller.
Bryan: If you could act in any show with any co-stars, what would the play be and who would you share the stage with?
Caitlin: Wow, these are awesome questions. Hmmm, the show would have to be the musical Wicked, with myself playing Elphaba. Fiyero would probably be Hugh Jackman, Glinda would have to be Kristin Chenoweth, and the rest of the cast would have to include my friends from school because then I would know we would all have a blast together. Hugh and Kristin might feel out of the loop at first but we would obviously welcome them into the circle! LOL
Bryan: Do you have any pre-show ritual or routine that helps you prepare or get pumped for the performance?
Caitlin: My warm-up ritual tends to be a little different for each show I do. Sometimes I focus on my face and mouth if there is a lot of language or dialects involved or sometimes I do a full-body warm-up if the show is quite physical. If I can work a great dance song into my warm-up that always gets me pumped up and excited. The one thing I definitely do each time though are some affirmations. I like to remind myself that I know what I`m doing and to have fun! It gives me that extra boost of confidence and feels awesome to give to yourself.
Bryan: Thanks for being a great sport Cailtin! Break legs with the rest of the Secret of Buterlersburg productions this summer!
